LAFC's historic partnership with YouTubeTV is already reverberating far outside the sphere of just sports.

During Alphabet's 2017 fourth quarter earnings call on Wednesday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai cited the LAFC-YouTubeTV partnership as an example of innovation in direct-to-consumer online streaming and YouTubeTV's emergence as a popular destination for entertainment.

"With all this great content, people are thinking of YouTube more as a key part of their TV viewing experience... and just yesterday, we announced a partnership with Major League Soccer's LAFC. YouTubeTV will be the exclusive home to watch all locally televised English-language matches, in addition to their original programming and content," Pichai said.

Alphabet's quarterly earnings calls inform shareholders, the business community, and the public at large of Google's finances and preview what the tech giant has on the horizon. The call is highly anticipated from Wall Street to Silicon Valley, and heavily reported on throughout the financial and technological sectors.
