The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today that the Club has acquired attacker Shaft Brewer Jr. from FC Dallas in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and $50,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) if certain playing conditions are met. Brewer Jr., who also spent time with the youth academies of RB Leipzig and Sacramento Republic FC, will be added to the Club’s roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

"Shaft is a dynamic and promising player who performed well throughout the preseason," said LAFC EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager John Thorrington. "We are excited to officially welcome Shaft back to California and to our Club."

A native of Sacramento, California, Brewer Jr. most recently played for German side RB Leipzig’s U-19 squad, appearing in three contests, tallying his lone goal in a win over Osnabrück U-19 on Nov. 18, 2017.

“Shaft is a young and exciting player who already has gained international experience,” said LAFC Head Coach Bob Bradley. “We look forward to working with him to further his development with LAFC.”

Brewer Jr., 18, has represented the United States Youth National Team’s at the U-18 and U-20 levels, earning his first call-up with the U-18s in April 2016. This year, Brewer Jr. has already been called to a pair of U-20 training camps, including the 12-day camp currently in session from March 17-28 in France and Spain. Brewer Jr. helped the U.S. to a first-place finish at the 2016 Vaclav Jezek Tournament in the Czech Republic.

The attacker began his youth career with Sacramento Republic FC's academy, leading the U-15/16 side with 12 goals in his first season with the club. Brewer joined FC Dallas' youth system a year later, appearing in 15 matches (eight starts) for the team's U-17/18 side before signing with Leipzig.
