The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) will travel to Utah to take on Real Salt Lake on Tuesday, June 11 at Rio Tinto Stadium at 7:00 p.m. PT in the Fourth Round of the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup after a draw was conducted by U.S. Soccer earlier today.
This will mark the second meeting of 2019 between LAFC and RSL after the Black & Gold earned a thrilling 2-1 victory over Salt Lake on March 23 at Banc of California Stadium.
In the Club’s first year of participation in 2018, LAFC advanced to the U.S. Open Cup Semifinals after earning victories over Fresno FC (2-0), Sacramento Republic FC (3-2) and Portland Timbers (3-2). The Club would battle the Houston Dynamo to a 3-3 draw before falling 7-6 in a penalty kick shootout.
In its 106th year, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, U.S. Soccer's National Championship, is the only high-profile competition in American team sports where amateur sides have the opportunity to face professionals in meaningful competition. The tournament is conducted on a single-game, knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer and has crowned a champion annually since 1914. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor United States soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.
