LAFC forward Diego Rossi was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for the ninth week of the 2020 MLS season.
Rossi helped the Black & Gold to a 5-1 home victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday night with two goals for his fifth multigoal performance of his MLS regular season career, and second this season.
With nine regular season goals, Rossi currently leads the 2020 MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi. LAFC sits in third place in the Western Conference standings with 12 points (3-2-3 overall record).
LAFC took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute when Rossi buried a tremendous shot from the left side of the box to the far past. Rossi then completed his brace to give LAFC a 4-0 lead in the 69th minute when he found a deflected pass in the box and finished with a quick right-footed flick just inside the left corner of the post.
LAFC continues action this week on Sunday when facing the Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park at 7:30 p.m. PT on YouTube TV, TUDN/Unimás, ESPN LA 710AM, and KFWB 980 AM.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
