The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today the signing of midfielder Calum Mallace. LAFC acquired Mallace’s rights with the 23rd pick in Stage 2 of the 2017 MLS Re-Entry Draft on Dec. 21, 2017.

“Calum is a versatile midfielder with valuable experience in the league,” said LAFC Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations and General Manager John Thorrington. “He has the tools to be a successful contributor to LAFC.”

Mallace, 28, has appeared in 80 career MLS regular season games (51 starts), registering 4,415 minutes played since 2012 for Montreal and Seattle. In 2015, he finished third on the Montreal Impact with five assists in all competitions.

The Scottish-born Mallace was the 2011 Big East Conference Midfielder of the Year and a member of the All-Big East Conference First Team at Marquette University, where he played in 69 games from 2008-2011. Mallace was the 20th overall selection by Montreal in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft and played five seasons there before being traded to the Sounders FC on Aug. 8, 2017.

“Calum is an intelligent midfielder,” said Head Coach Bob Bradley. "He possesses very good passing ability.”

The LAFC roster now stands at 12 players, with Mallace joining Carlos Vela, Diego Rossi, Omar Gaber, Walker Zimmerman, Laurent Ciman, Tyler Miller, Latif Blessing, Marco Ureña, Benny Feilhaber, Jordan Harvey and Rodrigo Pacheco on the club.

LAFC owns the number one selection in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 19 and opens training camp for its inaugural season on Jan. 22.
