LAFC secured the 100th win in club history with a 1-0 road victory against Atlanta United on Saturday night, tying the post-shootout era record (2000-present) of reaching 100 wins in the fewest amount of games (206), which was set by the Seattle Sounders in 2015.
The victory also marked the Black & Gold's first victory against the Five Stripes at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, second away win of its regular-season campaign after starting the season 0-4-1 on the road, and third consecutive win in MLS play. LAFC is now 7W-4L-3D (24 points) on the season and entrenched in the upper echelon of the Western Conference standings.
After a scoreless opening half, the match sprang to life 15 minutes into the second stanza when Atlanta United goalkeeper Brad Guzan was given a straight red card for bringing down Mateusz Bogusz on the edge of the penalty area as the LAFC attacker was bearing down on goal. Bogusz took the resulting free kick, and his shot deflected off the Atlanta wall, wrong-footing substitute goalkeeper Josh Cohen to give LAFC a 1-0 lead. The goal was the fifth of the season for Bogusz, marking his career high for LAFC.
The final 10 minutes of regulation - plus eight minutes of stoppage time - were a nervous affair for LAFC as midfielder Eduard Atuesta was sent off in the 81st minute after picking up a second yellow card. But another disciplined display from LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and a stingy defense saw the Black & Gold collect yet another clean sheet and all three points.
