A midweek contest and a chance to change gears. LAFC hosts its first U.S. Open Cup match in Club history as USL side Fresno FC travels to Banc of California Stadium.
It's win or go home in this knockout competition, here are the Toyota Keys to the Match against Fresno FC:
Play From The Opening Whistle
Imagine you're playing for a lower division side, and you've been given the chance to take down an MLS team. You think you'd be up for that match more than any other?
That's exactly what LAFC will be facing on Wednesday. During training this week, LAFC midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye said his team has to "match the intensity" of Fresno FC. It's vital the Black & Gold not take anything for granted.
Seize Your Opportunities
I'm not talking about finishing chances - but that would be nice, too. No, I'm talking about the guys that haven't seen much of the pitch so far this season.
In a season with multiple competitions, all players on the roster have to be counted on. We'll see mixed in with the normal starting 11 a few squad players against Fresno. Playing well when called upon could lead to more matches down the road in both MLS and the Open Cup. And those players that get a rest will be counting on their teammates to keep the level high for LAFC.
It'll be a real chance to show Bob Bradley that you can be counted when called.
Don't Leave It To Chance
Every match in the Open Cup is a one-off opportunity. There are no draws. Especially with the match taking place in midweek, you want to save your legs for the weekend by taking care of business early. And you definitely don't want to leave it up to a penalty shootout. So keep your level high from the first minute to the 90th, and don't leave anything to chance.
