A scrappy goal from Reto Zigler and nice finish by Roland Lamah were too much for LAFC to overcome in the end. Adama Diomande came on midway through the second half to score his first MLS goal, but it was not enough on a sweltering night in Dallas.
Here are the takeaways from LAFC's 2-1 loss to FC Dallas:
A First Half To Forget
Let’s just file away that first half somewhere nobody can find it.
The heat was obviously going to be a factor in Dallas, but you didn’t expect that type of listless performance. Between the toothless play going forward, confusion at the back, and the lack of focus, take your pick of the problems in that 45. I’d rather we just forget it.
Miller The One Bright Spot
But if we do have to talk about the first half, let’s remember Tyler Miller for keeping LAFC in this match.
The saves on Maxi Urruti and Santiago Mosquero were top class. After a few nervy moments in the last couple of matches, Miller was on his game against FC Dallas.

Dio Just What The Doctor Ordered
From the moment he came on the pitch, Adama Diomande gave the LAFC attack some life.
In the first half, the three attackers for LAFC had no drive, and the FC Dallas backline looked quite comfortable. Dio put his head down and went right at the heart of the Dallas defense.

The slick interchange between the striker and Benny Feilhaber for the LAFC goal was exactly what was missing in the first half, and the last few matches if I’m being honest.
The Unfamiliarity Was Apparent
From the start, the three attackers looked flat out of ideas. And the defense was scrambling almost the entire night. Just not a cohesive performance all around for LAFC.
There were a few players out there looking to make a difference. I thought Feilhaber did his best to drive the team forward. Of course, Dio finding the back of the net is a plus. And we already talked about Miller’s performance. But tonight, with few exceptions, not much was clicking.
Deciding to turn it on already down two goals, and against a side like FC Dallas, is always going to make you susceptible as play gets stretched. Had FC Dallas finished its chances on the break, this scoreline might have been a lot more lopsided.
The Club knew this World Cup stretch would test its depth. The players won’t get much time to ruminate on things though. A quick turnaround to midweek US Open Cup action means they’ll have to sort things out on the pitch.
LAFC are now winless in its last four matches, and the rest of the Western Conference is quickly making up ground. It’s going to be another interesting test for the Black & Gold.
