Get To Know Eduard Atuesta

Eduard Atuesta joins LAFC from Colombian Independiente Medellín. The 20-year-old defensive midfielder has been in training with the Club and is looking to make his MLS and LAFC debut against the Galaxy on March 31. We got a chance to catch up with Atuesta after training to get to know the new signing a little better on and off the pitch:

How did the LAFC opportunity come to you…

“I initially heard about the interest from my representative. He mentioned that the club was looking at me and Mike [Sorber] ended up coming to watch a game in Colombia. They were pleased and eventually made me an offer to join the Club. I spoke with my family and my manager before making the final decision.”

Did you know anything about LAFC/MLS before arriving…

“I definitely knew about that league. I have former teammates that currently play in MLS. I was never able to watch too many games, but I certainly knew of the teams that compete in the U.S. and began following the results every week.”

What are your first impressions of LA…

“It’s massive, but I really like it so far. I love the diverse cuisines and have been able to go out and explore a few places. I really like basketball and have gone to a couple games already. I’m lucky that one of my close friends lives in LA and he has been able to show me around town.”

Describe your playing style…

“I consider myself to be a versatile player. I help the defense and will always be defensive-minded when the team needs me to be. I think my strength has always been my technical ability. I like having the ball at my feet and I know what to do with it. I can be on the attack, even from my position on the field. I can play a number of positions and have done so in my two years as a professional.”

Is there a current/former player you're most like on the pitch…

“In the past there are definitely a few. I always loved watching Juan Roman Riquelme, Xavi, Frank Lampard, and Fernando Redondo. Currently, I look to emulate Toni Kroos and Sergio Busquets.”

Favorite musician/artist…

“Right now I’m listening to J Balvin, Nicky Jam, Ozuna, and Maluma.”

Favorite non-soccer athlete…

“Michael Jordan and Usain Bolt. Jordan was a magician, he did everything perfectly.”

What's something in LA you can't wait to do…

“People have told me to go watch the LA Kings and go shopping. I haven’t gone to either and I want to go soon.”

Favorite food in LA…

“I’ve really enjoyed the Mexican food out here and I already found a very good Colombian joint as well – El Sabor Colombiano.”

One celebrity you’d like to meet in LA…

“Will Smith or The Rock.”
