LAFC announced today that the Club has acquired defender Eddie Segura from Colombian side Atletico Huila on a permanent, multi-year deal.
“Eddie has played a crucial role in the team’s success in the first half of the season,” said EVP & General Manager John Thorrington. “He has leadership and presence beyond his years. He is a fantastic example to any player with his focus and how he applies himself and seeks to improve each day. He is a pleasure to work with, and we look forward to his continued contributions for years to come.”
After initially joining LAFC on a six-month loan on November 21, Segura remains only one of three players on the roster to appear in every game across all competitions in 2019, including all 22 regular season contests, playing all but 105 minutes at center back.
Last month, Segura was named to the MLS Team of the Week after a strong two-game performance in wins over Sporting KC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. In his first season outside of his native Colombia, the 22-year-old has established himself in a backline that leads the league in goals against (23), goals against average (1.04), and has helped shut out six opponents.
Prior to LAFC, Segura led Atlético Huila to a fourth place regular season finish in the 2018 Torneo Apertura after playing in every league and postseason match. In all, Segura saw action in 80 matches across all competitions for Huila, notching two goals in 7,121 minutes logged. Prior to Huila, spent his first four professional years with Deportivo Pereira of Colombia’s second division.
