The Los Angeles Football Club announced today its opening day roster ahead of the Club’s season second in Major League Soccer. The Black & Gold open regular season play this Sunday, March 3 at Banc of California Stadium against Sporting Kansas City. Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. PT on ESPN, ESPN 710 AM and 980 AM.
The Club also announced it has signed 2019 MLS SuperDraft selection Peter-Lee Vassell to a contract. Vassell, who was selected with the 40th overall pick in the second round of this year’s draft, will occupy an international slot and will be added to the Club’s roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa.
With the addition of Vassell, LAFC’s roster currently stands at 28 players. This past offseason, nine new players joined the Club for the 2019 campaign – two goalkeepers, four defenders, one midfielder, and two forwards.
Vassell officially joins LAFC after spending the past two seasons with Harbour View of Jamaica’s Red Stripe Premier League. During his time with Harbour View, Vassell tallied two goals in 38 appearances across all competitions.
The midfielder took part in the MLS Caribbean Combine in October, winning MVP honors at the event held in Kingston, Jamaica, earning him a spot at the 2019 MLS Combine presented by adidas in Orlando.
Internationally, Vassell represented Jamaica at the U17, U20, and U23 squads, prior to making his senior team debut on March 26, 2018. He has five goals in nine appearances for the Reggae Boyz, with the most recent coming in a 6-0 win over Bonaire in a Concacaf Nations League qualifier last October.
