If there is one bright spot from everything we're facing right now, it has to be the collective response to the COVID-19 pandemic.


Even as people are keeping indoors and complying with LA Mayor Eric Garcetti's "Safer At Home" order, they are still finding ways to help those in need and those at risk helping to fight the spread of the virus. Farmer John


  • Farmer John has been giving back to essential workers in the greater Los Angeles area who have been tirelessly working on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic through its Thank You Tour – a 12-week mission making 3-4 stops per week with a goal of providing one million hot dogs to the Los Angeles community through grab-and-go lunch deliveries to essential businesses and donations to local food banks. As part of the tour, Farmer John has donated nearly 700,000 servings of much-needed protein to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to help feed the 900,000 residents – three times more than before the pandemic – that rely on the food bank monthly.

  • Working in partnership with GE and 3M to produce face shields and masks for healthcare workers, first responders, and patients.
  • Announced a 6-month payment relief where they will defer 3 payments, and make 3 payments for customers that purchase new Ford vehicles. They also offer home delivery.
  • This month at the Ford Rawsonville Components Plant in Michigan, Ford is producing a ventilator with GE Healthcare leveraging the design of Airon Corporation’s FDA-cleared ventilator with a target production of 50,000 units in the next 100 days. The ventilator is designed to operate on air pressure without electricity, making it a versatile solution to help those fighting COVID-19.

Kaiser Permanente


  • Kaiser Permanente has made a $1 million contribution to both the CDC Foundation collaboration to help spread best practices based on evidence and data, as well as to the National Health Care for the Homeless Council to increase capacity for preventing and treating cases of COVID-19 within the nation’s homeless population.
  • Kaiser Permanente is a partner with Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti’s L.A. Protects, having provided the specifications for a non-medical mask that is being open-sourced to the public.

  • Actively expanding services to create new opportunities for drivers, facilitate rides for those in need, and help distribute essential goods.
  • Supporting the delivery of medical supplies and providing access to necessary medical transportation, especially for low-income individuals.
  • Activated LyftUp to donate tens of thousands of rides to those with essential transportation needs — especially for families and children, low-income seniors, doctors, and nurses. Working with new and existing partners on this initiative including United Way, World Central Kitchen, and Team Rubicon.

Melissa's Produce


  • Melissa’s has partnered with nonprofits to provide 80,000 meals to members of our communities who have been directly or indirectly affected by Coronavirus.
  • Melissa’s has donated 45,000 pounds of fresh produce to disaster relief efforts.
  • Financial and product donations have been made to various organizations including: American Red Cross, Mayors Fund for LA, California Community Foundation, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank, Pasadena Unified School District, GV Christian School and Church, St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, The Store Nashville, Bob Hope USO, City of Vernon Police & Fire, and Anaheim Police & Fire.
  • Melissa’s has made a commitment to their workforce by providing job security and remote access, so that Melissa’s can better serve and continue to support our communities.
  • Weekly care packages containing groceries and associate lunches are provided to Melissa’s on-site essential workers during this time.

Panda Express


  • Panda Express has created a COVID-19 Community Care Fund to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to select hospitals in need so they are best equipped to care for their communities. All guest donations starting March 25 will be put towards additional PPE, such as respirator masks, face shields, and gowns, to help other hospitals in highly affected areas.
  • Panda Cares has donated a total of $2 million worth of surgical and respirator masks as well as gloves to protect patients and healthcare workers at hospitals in COVID-19 hotbeds, such as Southern and Northern California.
  • Partnered with Feeding America by contributing $2M to their efforts to ensure no family goes hungry.

San Manuel Casino


  • San Manuel Casino has partnered with SAC Health System in San Bernardino to provide meals for their medical staff during this current medical crisis. San Manuel Casino may be closed, but every Thursday this month the Culinary Team is preparing 350 hot meals to ensure these medical professionals are well-fed.
  • San Manuel Casino has partnered with local organizations, Highland Senior Center and Mary's Mercy Center, to feed under-served populations in our community who are at risk during this pandemic. Over the next 2 weeks, the San Manuel Culinary team will prepare more than a thousand meals. Special thanks to their friends at East Valley Water District for delivering and distributing the meals to the Highland Senior Center.
  • They are proud to partner with Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino to distribute food to more than 5,000 people. Over 1,000 cars came through and all 41,000lbs they donated was distributed within three hours.

  • Target has introduced and expanded dedicated shopping time for their most vulnerable guests, making the first hour that stores are open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays available for those over 65 years old, pregnant women and those defined by the CDC as vulnerable or at-risk. Verizon


  • Supporting communities through a combined $18 million donation to nonprofits directed at supporting students, healthcare first responders, and small businesses, including No Kid Hungry, the American Red Cross, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) COVID-19 Response Fund, Direct Relief, the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund in support of the World Health Organization (WHO)’s global response, and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC).
  • Supporting students and teachers in its Verizon Innovative Learning program by tripling their data allowances. Additional connectivity includes all tablets and laptops within the program and upgrades data plans from 10GB/month to 30GB/month through June 30.
  • The data increase will impact up to 116,000 students and teachers within Verizon Innovative Learning schools and help provide increased access to remote instruction as coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to affect school operations.
  • Allocating 15 gigabytes of 4G LTE data to each of its wireless customers free of charge through the end of April.
  • Announced a digital entertainment series that will provide a platform that benefits small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
