LAFC is back on YouTube TV on Wednesday with Minnesota United visiting Banc of California Stadium (May 9 at 7pm PT | YouTube TV, UniMás 46).
Mark Rogondino returns to his hosting duties for the pre and post match shows, with Gevrina Catalina reporting from the sideline. Lead broadcaster Max Bretos will call the match, and once again, he welcomes a special guest as co-commentator.
Angela Hucles will join Bretos in the booth as the “Max+1” for the call of the Minnesota match. Here’s a few things you should know about the former US Women’s National Team star:
Record-Holder At The University Of Virginia
Born and raised in Virginia, Hucles stayed local for her college soccer. In four years at the University of Virginia, the midfielder scored 59 goals. Hucles was named to the all-ACC team in all four seasons, and she remains the UVA record-holder for goals, game-winning goals, and total points.
Two-Time Gold Medalist
Making her first appearance for the USWNT in 2002, Hucles went on to play 109 times for the US. She took home gold medals from both the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Olympics with the team.
In the semifinal of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Hucles scored twice against Japan. Her four goals in the tournament were second only to Cristiane of Brazil.
Part Of Multiple World Cup Squads
Hucles was a part of two World Cup squads for the US. Both appearances, 2003 in the US and 2007 in China, resulted in a bronze medal for her and her team.
Ambassador For Leadership And Equality In Sports
After her playing career, Hucles poured her efforts into initiatives promoting equality in sports.
She served as president of the Women’s Sports Foundation for two years from 2015 to 2017. Hucles is currently a member of the advisory board for You Can Play, an organization dedicated to fighting homophobia in sports.
