After a thrilling penalty shoot-out win against Monterey Bay FC in the Round of 32 of Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, May 9, LAFC now travels to face Real Salt Lake in MLS league play at America First Field on Saturday, May 13.

The Black & Gold are looking to get back on track after suffering their first loss of the MLS league season falling 2-1 to the Earthquakes on Saturday, May 6.

Saturday’s matchup in Utah will be with the 14th clash between the two clubs across all competitions, in which LAFC have won six-straight.

Real Salt Lake have only lost one of its last five matches in MLS league play and currently sit in 11th place of the Western Conference Standings with 11 points through 10 games played.

REAL SALT LAKE IN-DEPTH

Led by head coach Pablo Mastroeni, Real Salt Lake are looking to pick things up in 2023 and get back above the playoff line after being knocked out of the first round of the Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs in 2022.

The Club is led by midfielder Damir Kreilach, who has scored five goals in nine appearances against LAFC and has a goal and an assist through seven games played in 2023.

Forward and Designated player Jefferson Savarino leads the team with three goals and three assists through nine goals played.

LAFC WILL WIN IF

They can put their first loss of the season behind them and get back on track on the road. Forward and early MVP candidate Denis Bouanga scored his 14th goal of 2023 last week. The Black & Gold need him to continue to show his on-field dominance to keep the Real Salt Lake defense on edge.

REAL SALT LAKE CAN WIN IF

They can feed off their home crowd and put Damir Kreilach and Jefferson Savarino in good position to finish opportunities. Salt Lake will most likely come out in a 4-4-2 formation when on the attack but will drop back to a midblock defensively in attempt to disrupt LAFC’s hot offense.
