The Club is 19-8-4 on the season and has another opportunity to clinch the top seed in the Western Conference, and a spot in the 2023 Concacaf Champions League, with a win vs the Dynamo on Sunday. LAFC can also clinch the top seed in the West with a tie or loss by Austin FC on Saturday.
The Black & Gold (61 points) are in second place in the Supporters’ Shield standings behind the Philadelphia Union, who have 63 points with three games to play.
The Dynamo got their first-ever win over LAFC on Aug. 31 winning 2-1 at PNC Stadium but LAFC has been nearly perfect facing the Dynamo at Banc of California Stadium (3-0-1)
The Dynamo currently sit in 13th place in the Western Conference standings with 33 points through 31 games played.

HOUSTON DYNAMO IN-DEPTH
Led by interim head coach Kenny Bundy, who recently took over for Paulo Nagamura, the Dynamo have officially been eliminated from playoff contention after struggling throughout the majority of the year to get wins, especially on the road. Houston has managed to win just three games on the road in their last 40 tries (3-27-10).
Houston has scored 39 goals on the season from 10 different goal scorers, and Designated Player Sebastián Ferreira, Darwin Quintero and Fafà Picault have combined for 25 of the team’s total goals.
LAFC WILL WIN IF
They can settle down and focus on defending home field advantage. The team is near securing home field advantage through at least the Conference Semifinals and has won eight straight matches at home. Carlos Vela scoring outside of the 18-yard box vs. Minnesota was promising to see, and will need more of that vs. the Dynamo.
HOUSTON DYNAMO CAN WIN IF
Sebastián Ferreira has his way on the field once again, as he played a role in defeating LAFC on Aug. 31. Ferreira has scored in two of the last three games for the Dynamo and remains a threat any time he is on the field. The Dynamo will come in either a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 and will look to attack and catch LAFC off balance.
