Following a 2-0 win over Austin FC in the Round of 32 of Leagues Cup 2024 last Wednesday, LAFC will face the San Jose Earthquakes on Tuesday, August 13, in a Round-of-16 clash at BMO Stadium for a spot in the Quarterfinals.

The Black & Gold boasts a 4W-0L-1D record in Leagues Cup matches at BMO Stadium, having outscored opponents 18-3 in those games.

LAFC holds a 10W-7L-1D record against its Northern California rival. In their latest matchup on June 22, LAFC secured a commanding 6-2 victory over San Jose, with five different players finding the back of the net.

Quakes In Depth:

The Earthquakes are looking to carry their Leagues Cup 2024 momentum into the Round of 16. After finishing second in Group West 2, San Jose impressed with a 5-0 victory over Club Necaxa in its Round-of-32 match.

Led by interim head coach Ian Russell, the Earthquakes are eager for success in Leagues Cup after a challenging 2024 season in MLS league play thus far. The club currently sits in last place in the Western Conference with 14 points from 25 matches played.

San Jose's attack is led by Jeremy Ebobisse, who leads all Leagues Cup 2024 scorers with four goals in three matches, including two goals against Necaxa. Increasingly dangerous playmaker Hernán Lopez, who signed with San Jose in April, added a goal and an assist in the Necaxa win.

The Black & Gold Can Win If:

It seizes control of the match from the outset as it aims to extend its undefeated Leagues Cup home streak at BMO Stadium. Denis Bouanga remains a key figure in the LAFC attack. In six all-time Leagues Cup appearances, Bouanga has tallied eight goals and six assists, contributing either a goal or assist in every Leagues Cup game he’s played.

The LAFC defense will be tested by a formidable Earthquakes attack that has scored eight goals in three tournament matches.

The Quakes Can Win If:

They find a way to break through a tough LAFC defense that has conceded just three goals in five all-time Leagues Cup matches at BMO Stadium. After a five-goal performance against Club Necaxa, San Jose will be tested by goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who has secured clean sheets in both of his Leagues Cup starts for LAFC.
