The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) saw its inaugural Leagues Cup campaign end on Friday night at the Rose Bowl as the Club fell 3-2 in the quarterfinals to Liga MX side C.F. Monterrey.

The Black & Gold earned a 2-0 lead in the first half after Denis Bouanga converted a penalty kick just 1:27 into the game – marking the fourth fastest goal in LAFC history, and Mateusz Bogusz added a goal in the 42nd minute.

Monterrey would answer back in the second half scoring three straight-on goals from Sergio Canales (68’), an own goal, and Rogelio Funes Mori (88’) to take the lead and move on to the semifinals as the lone Liga MX club remaining in the tournament.

LAFC will be back in action on Sunday, August 20 when the Club returns to MLS Regular Season action as they host the Colorado Rapids at BMO Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, 710 AM ESPN Los Angeles, and 980 AM La Mera Mera (ESP).

  • Denis Bouanga’s penalty kick goal scored 1:27 seconds into the match is the fourth fastest goal in LAFC history. 
  • Denis Bouanga’s six total Leagues Cup goals leaves him in third place in goals scored in the tournament. Only Miami’s Lionel Messi (8 goals) and Minnesota’s Bongokuhle Hlongwane (7 goals) and have scored more than Bouanga.
  • Mateusz Bogusz scored his third goal for LAFC across all competitions and first in Leagues Cup.
